Healthcare Technology : Demand of future

Achal Chaurasia– Healthcare Technology
Technology has transformed the way how we perceive our daily activities, and the healthcare sector is no exception. The advancement in technologies is making sweeping changes in the health care sector, with India having a big beneficiary. Indians are expected to become more health-savvy than ever before. That being said, the Indian healthcare industry is facing several challenges. According to reports, about 30% of the Indians do not pay a hospital visit due to fear of expenses. India aims at delivering personalized healthcare and a patient-eccentric approach as its next course of technological evolution.
Why the Indian Healthcare Industry needs Special Attention?
The average Indian population treated by one allopathic doctor is 10,926. According to the National Health Profile data, there is one government hospital bed per 1,844 population. The report claims India to have over 10 lakh, allopathy doctors, to treat its 1.3 billion people. That brings the doctor to population ratio of 1:10,926 for India. This number is abysmally lower than the World Health Organization (WHO) prescribed ratio of 1:1,000.
A huge disparity is seen between the urban and rural healthcare sectors. The report also focuses on the inadequate healthcare infrastructure of the country and the number of insufficient beds. India has 23,000 hospitals covering around 7 lakh beds. However, almost 20,000 of these hospitals are situated in rural areas surrounding close to 3 lakh beds. The country’s urban regions hold around 3,700 hospitals, with the majority of beds totaling above 4.3 lakh.
India currently spends 1.26% of its total GDP on the public healthcare system, making the country have the lowest public healthcare budget in the world. These numbers reflect the failure of the government to match the healthcare infrastructure demand. The rot in the healthcare industry has made medical treatment unaffordable for most of its population.
